My name is Katherine Brading, and I am a philosopher.

I am interested in physics read as a contribution to philosophy, and especially in re-telling the history of philosophy from the late sixteenth century to the present day with physics as an integral part of the story.

 

My research includes work on Kepler, Descartes, Newton, and Du Châtelet; symmetries in physics; structuralism; Noether’s theorems; Hilbert, Weyl, and the foundations of general relativity; and most recently the relationship between physics and philosophy in the 18th century. 

I am a Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Duke University.
