Workshop: Mechanics and matter theory in the Enlightenment

UPDATE (Dec 2018): Thank you to everyone who made this such an energetic, compelling, and inspiring few days.

March 22, 2018: Marius Stan and I are organizing a workshop, to be held at Duke University, 16-18 November 2018, on topics relating to our book project, Philosophical Mechanics.

The workshop themes include collision theory, the metaphysics of body, the epistemic status of laws of motion and other principles, and the explanatory scope of mechanics by the end of 18th century. Primary figures include Christian Wolff, Émilie Du Châtelet, Jean d’Alembert, Leonhard Euler, Immanuel Kant, and Joseph-Louis Lagrange.

We have a great line-up of speakers, and we are hoping to bring in 2 or 3 more participants. See here for the Call for Applications.
